Personal Narrative
On December 17, 2019, me and my family were on our way to Mexico. My cousins were coming along with us as well, but they were in a different car following my dad. We left that day around 3:00p.m., and it takes three days to get to where my dad's family lives.
Three hours into the ride, I had already taken a nap, and I was as tired as a turtle when they walk fast. I realized that it was going to be a long drive, especially if I was already tired three hours later.
We stopped in Utah for about 45min to get some stuff we had forgotten. We also stopped because our cousins that were following us had left a little later than we, did so we had to stop somewhere to wait for them to catch up. About 1 hour later, we met up with my cousins so we could go together from Utah all the way to Mexico.
The next state we went through was Colorado. All the states we went though we just drove because my dad went all night and all day without stopping. My two older brothers traded off driving with my dad. My cousins had someone else driving with them as well so they wouldn’t get tired, either. We stopped to get gas in a gas station in Colorado, and as soon as I got out of the car to go to the bathroom, I already felt that it was warmer than it had been in Utah and Idaho.
The next state we went through was New Mexico, this was the longest state. I felt like the roads were going to keep going, but not to a different state. I felt like they were going to stay in the same state. I know it’s crazy to think, that but it's how I felt. New Mexico was probably the warmest out of all the states because we were passing through it in the morning and afternoon, not when the sun starts to set and it cools down. It was our second day of being on the road; it was really boring. I had nothing to do other than listen to music and sleep.
The last state we went through in the United States was Texas, and we didn’t get there until the night of our second day on the road. We stayed in Texas that night to sleep because we always do, and because it's really dangerous to drive at night in Mexico. As soon as we got to Texas, we went to have dinner and check into a hotel to sleep for the night.
We woke up at 5:00 a.m. that next morning because we wanted to get to Mexico during the day and because we didn’t want to take a long time at the border. From the border, it takes seventeen hours to get to. We went through the border pretty easy, nothing went wrong. I was a little scared because the border people look really scary, like big wrestling guys. As soon as we got across the border, it was probably around 6:00 a.m. We were about forty-five minutes into the drive, and it was still dark. My cousins were still following us.
My dad had gotten a little ahead of them for a bit, but then my dad didn’t see them behind us, so he slowed down. He still didn’t see them, so we called them.
“Hey, where are you guys?” said my dad.
“We are right behind you guys,” said my cousin.
My dad finally saw them, but he noticed the they only had one light working, so he pulled over to see what happened. It turned out that a deer crashed into them, and the truck wouldn’t turn after they parked. We were in the middle of nowhere. My cousins called their insurance and told them what happened, and they said that it was going to take them about thirty- five minutes to get to us. Thirty-five minutes passed by and they still weren't there, so we called again, and they said they were almost there. We waited a little bit more, and they still hadn't gotten there. They kept telling us they were almost there, and they would never show up. We ended up waiting for 4 hours it; was really cold outside, and my cousins had a baby. The truck wouldn’t turn on to turn on the heater. My dad didn’t want to leave them alone, so we waited with them. After they finally came and we knew they were going to be okay, we ended up leaving because they were going to go to a different town than we were. In the end it was really worth the trouble because I got to have my fifteen on time and I got to practice on time.
Personal Narrative Reflection
Please answer all questions in complete, grammatically correct sentences.
1.Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific.
It was a pretty hard process because i first i didn't know what to write about. After a few hours of thinking what i was going to write about i finally remember what happened when me and my family went to Mexico. Lastly I started writing my paper and and turned it in and next i gave it to my teacher and she corrected it and than gave it back to me to i can fix my errors.
2.What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
This is a narrative story because it is a story that really happened and that had a problem and solved it in the end and it is also a story the shows not tells. Some requirements where that is had to be three pages long and it also had to be a true story that happened. I meet these by putting everything that happened in the story so i can get three pages.
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out really well? What do you like about that part?
One part of my story that i think turned out really well was when my cousins finally got help and we went to where my family lives in Mexico. I like this part because in the end all of us where okay and got to our family's safe.
